Simplicity is the raison d’être for beyerdynamic’s new USB microphone called Fox. Designed for recording vocals or speech or for a performance with an acoustic guitar, Fox is a large membrane condenser microphone said to provide high sensitivity compared with other common dynamic microphones. The cardioid polar pattern reportedly shields against rear-incident and background noise. The elastic suspension on the microphone capsule has been designed to eliminate footsteps and fret noises.

According to the manufacturer, microphone recordings normally require a preamp and an A/D converter as well as the microphone. To the listen to the recording, users will need a D/A converter and a headphone amp or loudspeakers. However, the Fox setup consists of a microphone, preamp, converter and headphone amplifier. An adjuster on the front controls the volume, while another adjuster sends the microphone signal to the headphones for ‘instant’ control. A button at the back of the microphone regulates the gain and a mute button can be used to cut the sound of a cough during a live broadcast, for example. Accessories include a pop shield to prevent disruptive popping noises, a base to position the microphone to a table or lectern and a clamp to mount the microphone to a stand.

Meanwhile, beyerdynamic has introduced a new software program called TG Wireless Manager designed to centrally monitor and control wireless systems with a network interface. The program also allows users to calculate intermodulation-free frequency setups of not only beyerdynamic systems but of other products on the market too. beyerdynamic systems can be configured offline, allowing users to create multichannel setups prior to an event. RF environment conditions can also be monitored during live applications through the integrated scan function.
