The 33rd NAMM TEC Awards: ‘And the winners are’

The 33rd Annual NAMM TEC Awards were presented on the evening of Saturday 27 January at the Hilton Pacific Ballroom in Anaheim, California as part of The 2018 NAMM Show. Described as ‘the “Oscars” of the pro audio and sound recording industry’, the TEC Awards recognise the individuals, companies and technical innovations behind the sound of recordings, live performances, films, television, video games and multimedia.

Game of Thrones, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare and Bruno Mars’ 24K Magic were among the big winners of the creative categories. These were honoured alongside the winners of the 23 technical categories, which were:

‘We would like to thank the NAMM Foundation for recognising Sennheiser and the positive impact our products have for both audio professionals and aspiring engineers over the world,’ commented Jürgen Kockmann, manager of product management at Sennheiser, while the manufacturer’s Pro Talk Series and HD 200 Pro scooped the Audio Education Technology and Headphone/Earpiece Technology awards respectively. ‘Our enlightening Pro Talk series and the HD 200 PRO headphones are valuable tools for both engineers and music creators, helping and inspiring them in their daily work.’

Harman was also on the receiving end of dual honours, as the AKG C636 master reference condenser microphone received the award in the category of Microphones – Sound Reinforcement, while JBL’s Intonato 24 took the top spot in the Amplification Hardware/Studio and Sound Reinforcement category.

‘Harman Professional is extremely honoured to receive a NAMM TEC Award for the JBL Intonato 24,’ said Peter Chaikin, director, recording solutions at Harman Professional Solutions. ‘So many incredible people were involved in the success of the product including director of technology Jim Pennock and solutions manager Ted White, who were on the front line of development.’
