Engineering changes at Extron

Extron has promoted Steve James to the role of senior director of engineering. Mr James has worked for the manufacturer for 25 years, during which he designed the MediaLink and PoleVault systems and had a lead role in the development of the Extron Pro Control Systems platform. In his new role, he will lead the engineering team and direct the development of new solutions.

‘Steve is a proven and passionate leader who exemplifies industry thought leadership,’ added Extron president Andrew Edwards. ‘With his experience in designing advanced AV technologies, we will be able to continue the rapid pace of innovation our engineering team has established, while also scaling to a new level and positioning us for long-term success.’

Meanwhile, Steve Somers is retiring. He has been with Extron for more than 30 years and served most recently as vice president of engineering.

‘The AV industry is full of limitless opportunity and I’m proud to have been a part of Extron’s growth throughout many years of great technological advances,’ said the departing Mr Somers. I would like to openly thank Andrew Edwards for the opportunities within such a great company. It has been my personal pleasure to work alongside so many talented professional people both within Extron Engineering and throughout the company worldwide.’

Speaking of Mr James and his promotion, Mr Somers added, ‘Steve’s expertise in industry technology and in-depth working knowledge of Extron engineering efforts worldwide make him the right candidate to lead the department. His proven track record and tenure provide an exceptional level of confidence that he'll be successful in his new role.’

‘Under Steve [Somer’s] leadership, Extron has grown the capabilities to engineer and deliver well over 100 new products each year,’ revealed Mr Edwards. ‘I’d like to personally thank Steve for his dedication and years of service, and to wish him the very best in retirement.’
