API’s Saul Walker awarded Technical Grammy

API co-founder, the late Saul Walker, has received the Recording Academy Technical Grammy Award for his life-long achievements as a designer, engineer, teacher and mentor in the music industry. Walker was recognised alongside other recipients for the Lifetime Achievement award, with notable honourees including Black Sabbath, George Clinton & Parliament-Funkadelic, Sam and Dave, and Dionne Warwick, among others.

Having founded API 50 years ago in 1969, Walker’s designs remain the backbone of the company and continue to influence the music industry. In particular, designs of the API 312 mic preamp, 325 line driver, 512 mic preamp, the 550 EQ, and 1604 console are industry mainstays and use his renowned 2520 Op Amp to create a warm analogue sound.

Walker is remembered by his friends and family as someone who was kind and innovative. In attendance at the Hollywood Dolby Theatre ceremony were API President Larry Droppa and Walker’s family, including daughter Yren Berry, who accepted the award on his behalf.
