World:

Nady Systems, a pioneer in wireless microphone technology, has been acquired by Chicago-based PromarkBrands. The Nady brand will continue as a division of Promark, which manufactures and distributes AV and photographic equipment.

Founded in 1976 by John Nady after he developed and patented a companding process for wireless audio, Nady Systems began selling the technology in wireless microphones. The technology is still in use today and widely regarded as an industry standard. In 1996, Nady’s development of modern analogue wireless microphone technology earned him an Emmy Award.

‘I began working on wireless in 1968 as a young electronics engineer and rock guitarist just out of school,’ recalled Nady. ‘Nady Systems has been my life’s work, and extremely gratifying on many levels. We’ve always done our best to provide the MI/pro audio industry with top-notch gear at affordable pricing, and it’s been a privilege to have served our millions of customers throughout the world.’

It was Nady’s decision to retire after 43 years of running the business that served as the catalyst for the sale to Promark. ‘As I retire from Nady, I want to express my deepest gratitude to all of those who have enabled us to achieve such great success: the countless players, touring artists, peripheral industries, and of course our loyal and devoted staff,’ added Nady. ‘We know Nady will be in good hands with PromarkBrands and we look forward to them continuing the legacy in the years to come.’

For Promark, the addition of Nady Systems to its portfolio will provide it with a line of wireless/pro audio equipment, complementing its current catalogue and offering entry into the pro audio market. Nady Systems will continue to operate from the San Francisco Bay Area, remaining in its current office in Richmond, California while working in conjunction with Promark’s offices in Chicago. Nady, as well as COO Toby Nady, will initially work with Promark as consultants.
