TVBS upgrades Clear-Com setup


TVBS has chosen a Clear-Com setup, combining wired and wireless solutions, for its communications needs at its Taipei City headquarters, as well as on location. The new setup allows the commercial broadcaster to connect over IP and to integrate third-party equipment when required.

TVBS has used Clear-Com’s Matrix Plus 3 system for more than 10 years and, following the recent upgrade, plans to keep it as a backup.

The new communications setup comprises the Eclipse HX digital matrix, which integrates wireless devices and wired settings, and V-Series Panels that are integrated into the system via IP-enabled LQ Series devices. An OB vehicle has been equipped with a FreeSpeak II digital wireless intercom system, which is directly connected to Eclipse HX through an LQ device that combines the signal and sub-control connection into the same system.

FreeSpeak II allows the production teams to roam freely while on location and is designed to be resistant to 4G interference. Handheld devices such as smartphones and tablets can also become part of the intercom through Wi-Fi or 4G LTE signals using the Agent-IC mobile app. Agent-IC also provides administrator test signals for temporary scheduling.

‘Our main criteria for upgrading to a new matrix system was security, stability and ease of maintenance,’ revealed Andrew Chung, engineering department manager at TVBS. ‘We compared various solutions from several intercom manufacturers and conducted POC and vendor planning and presentations. After comprehensive evaluation, Clear-Com was the clear choice. Clear-Com provided excellent service throughout the process. We are very happy with the new system which gives us excellent flexibility as well as secure and reliable communication.’
