Riverside theatre acquires lighting from Robe

Riverside theatres are known for putting on productions from different genres of performing arts. They have three separate venues across Sydney which hold anything from performances to classes for the community. As part of its sustainable lighting goal, Riverside theatre has installed Robe DL4S Profiles and LEDWash 300s in its Riverside venue. The moving lights are the first that Riverside has owned, while the LED lights were its second.

The decision to invest in Robe lighting was an easy one as Riverside was used to working with Robe’s LED lights in one of their other venues. Many technicians were impressed with several of the features and stated how practical these lights were for productions.

‘Touring productions will often arrive at our venue with a load of moving lights to hang, and leave them in the truck, instead utilising our in-house Robe rig,’ said Sean Clarke, a technical co-ordinator for Riverside. ‘The touring technicians are always very complimentary regarding the brightness and colour saturation that comes with using RGBW rather than a plain white light source.’

Colleagues of the Riverside theatre wanted to conduct a litmus test with their new lights and felt that a professional orchestra would be ideal. The company decided to test this with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra while they were performing ‘Pictures in An Exhibition’ for a school programme.

‘People love the new lights,’ added Clarke. ‘There’s been many positive comments particularly from lighting designers.’
