China Central Television receives Ovation

China Central Television (CCTV) has recently invested in Merging Technologies' Ovation media sever and sequencer. The broadcaster was already a user of the manufacturer’s Pyramix DAW due to the need for reliable high-track count recorders. Now, Ovation can also be found in several of CCTV’s studios.

In the 800m² television studio, an Ovation system is linked to a Lawo MC² console with Ravenna AoIP technology, providing multichannel playback during live programmes. In the E-Zone of the building, an Ovation is connected with a Hapi networked audio interface to perform multitrack reverberation as well as other live effects. CCTV’s Studio E02 is currently being set up for live broadcast and the plan is to use the Show Control capabilities of Ovation to combine the control of audio, video and lighting. This involves connecting the video switcher and the lighting console which is already controlling audio.

Furthermore, the project also involved CCTV's first 4K all-IP truck in China. Here, Merging’s Pyramix is connected to a Lawo MC² console via the Ravenna/AES67 network in order to capture high-quality multitrack recordings.

Weishen Xu, president of Merging Asia, commented: ‘Our efforts over the past several years have been well rewarded. Pyramix is firmly established in recording and broadcast facilities throughout China and, more recently, we have seen a big increase in Ovation sales to some very major venues. Broadcasters, like CCTV, want a reliable platform for live transmissions and have been very happy with the results. We are very proud to see Ovation being used for some of the most important events in China.’
