NEXO launches the P12 in Asia

Over 50 sound designers and engineers, systems integrators and rental providers followed an invitation to witness the launch of the NEXO P12 coaxial loudspeaker and the matching L15 subwoofer at Yamaha Music Asia’s premises in Singapore. NEXO’s business development director for SEA, Joe White, and Yamaha’s senior technical engineer, Aloysius Tang, led a presentation of the feature-loaded yet compact enclosures initially introduced earlier in 2019.

‘Over 25 years, our PS Series is probably the most sold system of its kind in the region,’ said White. ‘The new P Series is the evolution – the next generation of our point source loudspeakers. Again, we’ve taken the best of everything, put it together in a package, and are significantly louder than everyone else.’

The attendees were made familiar with the wide range of possible applications for the P12 benefitting from easily interchangeable horn flares with 60° x 60°, 90° x 40° or 60–100° x 40° dispersions, connectors on three sides, pole-mounted, suspended, or as low-profile floor monitor, and an install-specific version.

After learning about amplification options, most notably the NXAMP4x2mk2 four-channel amplifier for passive and active operation, they were given the opportunity to experience the P12 and L15 first hand.

‘I’m really impressed with the flexibility of the P12,’ stated freelance sound engineer, Mark Spencer. ‘It sounds very good, both as a floor wedge and a top, so it can be used equally well as either.’

‘We have a number of PS15s in use,’ noted Daniel Hgalel, sound engineer at Singapore’s Republic Polytechnic school, ‘and the P12 is definitely a contender for replacing them. It’s smaller, lighter, easier to use as both PA or wedge with the quick-change horn flares and, even without subs, it still produces a lot of low end.’

Robert Soo, principal consultant of Cogent Acoustics, added his point of view: ‘Some of my clients with larger venues and multiple rooms need systems that they can easily haul around and use in different configurations depending on the event. I could well imagine the P12 and L15 being a solution for them.’
