NTV streams wirelessly with 4G and Sony
NTV was reportedly one of the first stations in Bangladesh to use mobile-enabled live streaming. As it wanted a cost-efficient solution with 4G/LTE and Wi-Fi networks, the station invested in Sony’s PWS-100RX1A and PWS-110RX1A network RX stations alongside the PXW-X70 and PXW-Z280 XDCAM camcorders.
Before the recent purchase, NTV already had Sony PXW-X400 and PXW-X200 camcorders in its inventory. ‘These camcorders came with a built-in Wi-Fi module and gave us the opportunity to live stream using mobile data,’ said Hare Krishna Mozumder, senior manager of broadcast operations and engineering at NTV. ‘Unfortunately, our third party live mobile streaming solution was patchy and it was also a costly exercise as we had to frequently switch SIM cards.’
Both the PWS-100RX1A and PWS-110RX1A use Sony’s QoS (quality of service) technology and MPEG2-TS to maintain audio and video during transmission. ‘Sony’s wireless live streaming products, combined with 4G, gave us improved live streaming results. Sony's Network RX stations and wireless workflow-enabled XDCAM camcorders worked very well even with low broadband bandwidth,’ commented Mozumder. ‘Our crew in rural areas could transmit entire files to our studios in Dhaka using a single SIM card. We’re very excited about our latest Sony acquisitions as they give NTV the best of both worlds: live streaming and high-quality HD images.’
