Australia:

Glow Church has opened its newest campus in Melbourne at Arrow on Swanston. Senior pastor Joel Cave enlisted Forefront Productions to deliver on the audio, video and lighting requirements of the new facility, which led to the installation of Adamson iS7 loudspeakers and Pixapanel LED lyric strips.

The space is described as challenging, especially considering the various functions it is used for. ‘Arrow on Swanston is a commercial function centre with multiple users in any given week,’ explained Matt Wever from Forefront. ‘Fortunately, we have been able to leave some equipment in situ, such as the Pixapanel LED lyric strip and front wash lighting – whereas all other elements are stored onsite but set up and packed down weekly.’

The auditorium’s geometry also presented somewhat of a challenge, especially when it came to lighting. A series of vertical bars on columns have been placed in the seated area in lieu of a main front lighting bar and there lacks easy access for focusing.

E1 framing LED profile moving heads were deployed as front washes, allowing for the focusing and framing of front wash from the MA onPC lighting control software installed at the church. This also provides for quick profiling of a presenter when the large motorised projection screen drops downstage for a video presentation, keeping the light off of the screen.

Glow Church’s style of worship required a good-quality audio system that was also easy to store away and set up again each week. There was nowhere to hang a flown PA system, so Forefront therefore chose to install a main speaker system comprising an Adamson iS7 line source array solution due to its combination of audio quality and compact, lightweight form factor.

A trio of iS7 elements are complemented by two iS118 subs per side on rolling dollies, which allow for the speaker system to be up and running in a matter of moments. The system is powered by Lab.gruppen D-series amplifiers with on-board Lake processing and control.

‘The Adamson iS7 not only sounds incredible but allows for the high level of vocal and presentation microphones that, given the stage thrust position, are actually and unavoidably within the direct field of coverage,’ said Wever. ‘Uniquely, the iS7 system’s high impedance allows for cost-effective future growth, with more speaker elements able to be added to the existing four-channel amplifiers.’

The Forefront team also implemented pre-wired rack packages, including a multi-pin stage audio patch system and drum drop to ensure set up each week would be easy for the church’s volunteers. Floor package lighting was also provided and intended for quick deployment, with ShowPro LED bars that remain mounted on aluminium vertical pipe and base plates to keep things lightweight and mobile. Sennheiser G4-500 series wireless mics and G4-IEM in-ear monitors already owned by the church were augmented with additional new units and antenna distribution and remain integrated and patched into the main audio rack, which is wheeled in for each service.

The entire system can reportedly be set up in 15 minutes and is said to have delivered a great result for Glow Church.
