Sardar Patel Stadium reopens with Bose speaker system

After five years of reconstruction, the Sardar Patel Stadium in Ahmedabad – now the biggest in the world with a capacity of 110,000 – has reopened with an immersive sound system comprising 162 Bose ArenaMatch loudspeakers. The new system was unveiled to an audience of 100,000 at the Namaste Trump event in February to welcome Donald and Melania Trump on their first visit to India.

The stadium was constructed by engineering and construction conglomerate Larson and Toubro (L&T) on a 63-acre plot, with Bose ArenaMatch covering three areas of the venue. The Lower Bowl has been installed with 16 arrays of four units each of the AM10, AM20 and AM40 loudspeakers, while the Upper Bowl area is equipped with 19 arrays of the same models. A total of 11 Bose Panaray 402s have been installed in the VIP section, with 10 units in the VVIP section. Additionally, a point source system of 10 Panaray 402s and six AM40s covers the banquet area in the VIP section.

The Bose Professional ArenaMatch DeltaQ line of loudspeakers was launched during ISE in 2019 to coincide with the unveiling of the ArenaMatch installation at the Philips Stadion football stadium in Eindhoven, the Netherlands. This provided consultants, SIs and end users an opportunity to experience the system’s sound quality, consistency, vocal clarity and flexibility in an outdoor venue.

‘After our return from ISE, we approached the Gujarat Cricket Association and L&T who was the master contractor, and it was suggested to have an onsite shootout between three PA brands,’ said Bose country manager, SAARC, Vibhor Khanna. ‘After evaluating the performance on various parameters, the authorities hailed the Bose ArenaMatch system as the winner.’

The entire audio system, running on Dante, can be operated from four strategically placed controlled rooms. ‘We’ve supplied the Bose EX-1280 C Dante-enabled [64x64] DSP,’ commented Navin Datta, head of sales engineering at Bose. ‘It has on-board Logic/Control to interface with third-party devices, and the same is used to interface with the fire evacuation system of the BOH areas. Being Dante-enabled, it can communicate to various amplifiers installed across four control rooms seamlessly.’

The stadium is now ready to begin hosting cricket matches once public gatherings and sporting events can once more go ahead in India.
