Exclusive: Tehnichi Audio enhances fungal growth

Located in Malaysia’s northern state of Kedah Darul Aman, Gano Excel International has been cultivating Ganoderma-based products for 25 years. Found in the Lingzhi mushroom, which is a polypore fungus, Ganoderma is a naturally occurring product that is plentiful here. The remote agricultural region, therefore, is an unlikely setting to find an experience centre equipped with a high SPL QSC loudspeaker system together with Epson projectors and ornate metallic structures loaded with LED leaves.

Owner Leow Soon Seng wanted to create a dramatic, AV-inspired showcase with motivational messages and branding for visiting guests and distributors from more than 60 countries around the world. As such, he commissioned Tehnichi Audio to provide the unique AV design that more than sheds a light on Chinese herbal remedies. Challenged by Leow Soon Seng to create the ‘wow’ factor, Tehnichi Audio founder Simon Teh normally designs and installs custom audio systems for audiophiles in high-performance vehicles and residences.

‘Leow Song Seng is an audiophile who loves music,’ disclosed Teh. ‘Following the brief, I had to challenge myself to conceptualise his vision. However, I relish a challenge.’ The centrepiece of the exhibition is a metallic Lingzhi tree adorned with hanging LED leaves. The AV touch has been applied to the welcome exhibition centre and an adjacent auditorium. Having identified a Q-Sys Core 250i integrated processor as the cornerstone for the audio control and management in the new centre, Teh consulted QSC distributor Mercoms Systems to assist him.

Divided into five zones, the experience centre can accommodate 250 guests at any given time. Mercoms Systems’ designer Albert Foo assisted Teh with the loudspeaker design, incorporating a selection of QSC models to befit each sector. Upon entry through the foyer, guests are greeted by BGM and announcements sourced to pillar-mounted AD-S12 12-inch cabinets. ‘Our aim was to provide a consistency of audio coverage by carefully matching the speaker model to the zone,’ commented Foo. ‘All QSC speakers incorporate the proprietary Directivity Matched Transition technology, which creates a uniform frequency response over the coverage area. Furthermore, the adoption of Intrinsic Correction provides voice filtering through Q-Sys and CXD-Q amplifiers.

In keeping with this design philosophy, a selection of other AD-S enclosures, in addition to pendant and ceiling models, best match the acoustic environment. All audio signals are handled by the Q-Sys Core 250i, while QSC CXD4.2Q, 4.3Q and 4.5Q network amplifiers provide the power to the 8Ω impedance speaker system. Sources include a paging microphone, CD player and an AKG wireless mic system. Show triggers programmed within the Q-Sys software are managed and controlled from an iPad touchscreen using the Q-Sys Control app. Visuals are provided by dual Panasonic PT-DZ870 projectors in addition to a combination of 40- and 75-inch LG displays.

A Q-LAN network connects the Core 250i integrated processor in the control room of the 200-seat auditorium with the CXD-Q network amplifier in a sub-rack located in the exhibition centre. An Epson EB-Z11000W projector and Screen Innovation SI Slate 150-inch diagonal screen provides the visuals for guests, while a QSC cinema speaker system provides accompanying L-C-R and surround sound.
