Martin Audio chosen for Cé La Vi Shibuya

Japan:

New bar, club lounge and restaurant, Cé La Vi, has opened in Shibuya, central Tokyo across the 17th and 18th rooftop floors of the revamped Tokyu Plaza Shibuya Fukuras shopping mall. The venue has been installed with a range of Martin Audio systems throughout the three spaces, specified by Shintaro Dobashi, director of acoustic design specialist, Enter Sandman. There is already a Cé La Vi club on the top floor of the prestigious Marina Bay Sands hotel in Singapore.

“The customer’s request was to connect all three sections of the venue, to create a restaurant that could be used commercially or privately, to make it ideal for a cool Tokyo clientele and a place that lived up to the reputation of the Cé La Vi brand,” said Dobashi. “As this is a restaurant, not all staff are familiar with audio equipment, and so we embarked on the project with the aim of building an audio setup that is easy and reliable to use by anyone.”

The Cé La Vi Club Lounge and casual dining café bar, Bao By Cé La Vi occupy the 17th floor, while the fine dining Cé La Vi restaurant and Sky Bar are situated on the 18th floor. The Club Lounge floor has a Martin Audio THV and SXH218 main system, with CDD15s and SXF115s for side-fills, LE100s for DJ monitoring and CDD12s for the VIP room.

"Club Lounge is fully glazed and customers can overlook the night sky of Shibuya,” explained Dobashi. “We took care of reflections from the glass when constructing the system. First, we simulated the sound with EASE/EASE Focus, to ensure the bounce back from the glass was minimised, then placed the various loudspeakers accordingly. Carrying out repeated simulations at the design stage, we were able to achieve good control with less slapback."

The 17th-floor casual dining area, Bao, offers seated dining and additional terrace seating within a club-like atmosphere. "Because we sometimes hold events in conjunction with the Club Lounge on the same floor, we combined Martin Audio C4.8T and C6.8T ceiling speakers, depending on the height,” he continues. “For the terrace seats, we used the CDD12 as a main system, with CDD8s at the sides. An SX118 extends the low frequency, while CDD6s are used in areas where the main system cannot reach. Overall, Martin Audio sound remains unified throughout, including within the club area."

The fine dining Sky Bar on the 18th floor has also been installed with an even distribution of Martin Audio C4.8T and C6.8T ceiling speakers to avoid any hot spots or dead areas.

“I am delighted by the many favourable customer comments about the sound, and also by the staff saying how easy it is to use,” said Dobashi, who also reported that the venue recognised the value of good sound, giving his company free reign when designing the systems. “There is no other location where you can overlook such a view of Shibuya,” he concluded. “Cé La Vi is a restaurant that values sound as much as cuisine.”
