Those congested tradeshow booths where invited journalists and videographers grappled for the best spot may finally have been consigned to the history books. Balancing canapés with Bucks Fizz precariously on a notebook, while trying to take a compromised picture of the speaker holding the product – what were we doing? Bravo to Nexo – eco-friendly, an attentive audience, cost savings a plenty and a quantifiable audience for the French manufacturer without having to take business cards.

Broadcast on Facebook Live at 10.00am (GMT), the long-awaited unveiling of the follow-up to the successful ID24 cabinet was slick in its production values and neatly presented by four Nexo representatives, including Gareth Collyer (international sales director) and Francois Deffarges (engineer support director). A companion IDS108 subwoofer joins the existing IDS110 and IDS210 models. Unfortunately, a demonstration of the 4-inch ID14 coaxial point speaker is not possible on an internet launch. However, interested viewers wanting to study the 1.7kg lightweight properties of the 130mm x 130mm x 120mm polyurethane enclosure will have to visit a Nexo dealer to fully assess its dual concentric design.

Deceptively powerful, the ID14’s dual concentric design features a coaxial 4-inch LF driver with a 1.3-inch voice coil and a 1.4-inch diaphragm for the HF. Two directivity options can be applied in the form of a standard 100° x 100° horn or an asymmetric alternative offering 90° x 140° dispersion. Manufactured in France, the ID14 is capable of producing a peak output of 116dB with a frequency response of 120Hz – 20kHz (–6dB). When paired with the iDS108 8-inch bass-reflex subwoofer, low-frequency extension to 63Hz can be attained.

Available in black, white or any RAL colour, the IP55-rated weather-resistant cabinet comes with a comprehensive range of accessories. The rear of the fully symmetric design incorporates two M6 inserts for wall-mount applications and a dedicated U bracket can be added for installing on a microphone stand. Sharing the same acoustic components, two versions of the ID14 are available. The Installation version features an acoustic fabric-fitted front grille and there is a cable gland with two-core cable for audio input offering IP55 protection. The Touring version of the ID14 uses a Magnelis steel grille and the back plate holds two speakON connectors.

Such flexibility promotes itself into a multitude of applications where a discreet point source solution is required, such as theatre-fills. While most venues hosting live performances are currently closed, Nexo will surely find plenty of interested parties, including high-end retail outlets, houses of worship, tradeshows, the hospitality trade, transport hubs and public spaces. Designed to overcome architectural challenges in historic buildings, while providing unobtrusive high-power performance, the ID14 is ideal for surround sound and immersive audio applications, including video mapping exhibits in museums.

The recommended amplification solution is the NXAMP4x1Mk2 Powered TDController, which can power up to eight ID14s per-channel. A dedicated setup for each directivity is available on the NXAMP, ensuring perfect coverage at any frequency. Additionally, the DTDAMP4x0.7, paired with a DTDcontroller, can power up to four ID14s per-channel. The ID14 and IDS108 are currently in full production.
