KBS Arena upgrades audio with JBL

A landmark venue for various cultural performances and events, the KBS Arena in Seoul has recently undergone a major audio upgrade facilitated by TechDataPS and KBS Business featuring JBL Professional SRX 900 loudspeakers. From hosting the Seoul Olympics to K-POP concerts, the arena has adapted over the years with new technologies to position it as a global stage for live performances and events. The project marks the world’s largest installation of the SRX 900 series.

The seating arrangement at the KBS Arena was designed to give audiences an optimum view of artists during performances across the different sections of seats. However, acoustically there was a disparity of sound quality for the third floor and the areas around the side of the stage compared to the first and second floors. To combat this, the JBL installation has been designed to provide optimal sound quality that is consistent across all seating areas.

“With the new audio upgrade, performance organisers now prefer to use the in-house JBL Professional equipment without bringing their own sound system,” noted Oh-Sang Kwon, the manager in charge of KBS Sports World and KBS Arena. “We are committed to attracting more performances and aim to specialise as a world-class venue for festival performances, including indie, rock bands and hip-hop.”

The JBL line array sound system comprises 30 SRX910LA speakers with 15-inch drivers for the left and right channels to provide sound up to 30m away. Fifteen SRX910LAs have been implemented for the left and right channels, while 12 SRX906LA speakers have been installed for the LL–RR channels, with six for each side. Providing low end definition and bass are 18 SRX928S subwoofers, installed under the stage.

"Since its launch last year, the JBL SRX900 series has gained significant global recognition with South Korea having achieved the remarkable feat of being the top market for sales outside of the US,” said Amar Subash, VP and GM, Harman Professional Solutions, APAC.“I am grateful to our partner TechDataPS for executing this project for KBS Arena and transforming it into a perfect venue for future landmark performances.”
